The Do’s and Don’ts of Installing A Radiator at Home

Planning to install a new radiator in your premises? Then wait a while and think of the place where it would be mounted. If you are thinking of the same spots like on the exterior of the wall or below the window where it has been installed for over a decade then take a break.

With today’s technological advancements, a number of designer radiators are available considering the daily requirements and space limits of your home. These are made keeping different aspects in mind like the space it will occupy, the style and comfort, heat capacity, size, horizontal or vertical designs, and its type like interior or exterior.

Although the range of radiators have provided you the freedom to install them in a multitude of places including the alcoves and internal walls, but there are some points to take in stride while installing a radiator.

Here are the do’s and don’ts that will make you think out of the box and help your home heat better.

Do’s

Take a note of your needs

The first and foremost thing before buying a new radiator is to take a look at your needs. Decide which room needs it the most. If you require one for your bedroom, then go for a hand-made designer one as it will spruce up your room with a touch of elegance.

If you want a radiator for your living room, then look for a designer column radiator that will add style to the walls giving it the aesthetic appeal.

Choose the size according to the wall

Selecting a radiator for big and deluxe room is not a big deal but when you have restriction of space then it is a challenging task to choose the best one. So always take into consideration the size of the wall and the available space and make a purchase accordingly.

For kitchens where most of the area is occupied by countertops and shelves, vertical radiators are a good choice. Always keep the style and decor of your kitchen in mind and choose a design accordingly, for example – select a traditional column glass radiator for farmhouse style kitchen.

Use low profile radiator for small spaces or conservatory

Rooms with small or no windows or conservatory have high shortage of space and ventilation therefore a low profile radiator could best suit these areas. It will keep the room warm and can easily fit in the available space.

How about a towel rail for your bathroom

Your bathroom is as important as anything else and therefore it needs to be pleasantly hot and welcoming. A towel radiator is no doubt the best option as it plays the dual role of keeping your bathroom cosy and your towels warm and dry.

Towel rail matching with the style and colour of the walls makes it beautiful and attractive, but positioning the towel radiator at its right place is equally important, so always install it close to the bath tub or shower so that after taking a bath you can reach the towel easily.

Don’ts

Don’t install radiators behind big furniture

According to the look of the bulwark and design of the radiator, you can fit it anywhere but try to not fix it behind big furniture like sofa and cabinets. These items will curb the flow of heat through the entire space and restrict the hot air to permeate the room, as a result only the immediate space will be heated, and rest of the room will remain cold.

Keep it away from long curtains

If the radiator is installed below the drape and it has floor-length curtains covering and overlapping the radiator, then you are sure to get not more than 50% of the heat and the rest would vanish because of the curtains. Even if your room has mid-length curtains with a convector radiator installed, then again the heat would be snuffed out and would not reach the entire room so in order for the heat to reach optimally, install the radiators at a distance from the curtains.

Next time, when you add a radiator to your humble abode using the above mentioned tricks, you are sure to get the best possible results. Your home will look more stylish with the perfect combination of the warmth in the room.
